Bergamot scent notes

Bergamot is a citrus fruit grown mostly along the coast of Calabria in southern Italy, and its oil is pressed from the peel. It smells like lemon and orange with a floral, slightly peppery edge. It is also the flavor of Earl Grey tea.

Perfumers use it widely because it stays elegant where other citrus turns sharp, and it opens everything from colognes to amber blends. Like every pressed citrus it fades early, so it needs a base underneath to carry it. Pressed bergamot also carries IFRA limits for leave-on skin products; check the certificate before you formulate one.
