Cedarwood scent notes

Cedarwood oil is a family rather than a single oil. Some come from true cedars, like Atlas cedarwood from Morocco and Himalayan cedarwood, and smell warm, sweet and a little like honey. Others come from junipers, like Virginia and Texas cedarwood, and smell drier and sharper, closer to a pencil shaving or the inside of a cedar chest.

Cedarwood is a base note that gives a blend a dry backbone and keeps it from turning sweet. It suits resinous, marine and evergreen blends especially well. Reach for a true cedar when you want warmth and a juniper cedarwood when you want something drier and cleaner.
