USDA Certified Organic Essential Oils
The Essential Oil Company (Applied Herbals LLC) is a certified organic handler under the USDA National Organic Program, certified by Oregon Tilth continuously since October 2008.
Handler certification covers everything that happens to an oil after it leaves the grower and distiller: receiving, storage, bottling, labeling and record-keeping at our Niles, Michigan facility, inspected on site every year. Every oil we sell as certified organic is sourced from certified organic growers and distillers, and its organic status is documented from the supplier certificate to the bottle you receive, so you can carry the claim through to your own finished product.

What Our Certification Covers
What Certified Organic Means
“Organic” on an essential oil is a regulated claim. To carry the USDA Organic seal, the botanical must be grown on certified organic land without prohibited synthetic pesticides, fertilizers or GMOs, and every operation that handles the oil after harvest, including the distiller and the company that bottles it, must hold its own certification so the chain of custody is never broken.
Our oils are certified in two USDA label categories. 100% Organic: frankincense (B. carteri and B. frereana), lavender Bulgarian, lime, myrrh, peppermint and spearmint. Organic (at least 95 percent organic ingredients): eucalyptus, geranium, lavandin grosso, lemon, rosemary, sweet orange and tea tree. Certified organic argan and pumpkin seed oils are listed as well. The certified name and category for each product appear on our USDA Organic Integrity Database profile.
Oregon Tilth is an independent nonprofit certifier based in Corvallis, Oregon, founded in 1974 and accredited by the USDA to certify operations to the National Organic Program. It reviews our supplier certificates and records and inspects our facility every year.
