Lime comes in two styles. Pressed lime smells like fresh zest. Distilled lime, the kind long used to flavor colas, is sweeter and almost candy-like, and distillation removes the furocoumarins that limit pressed lime in leave-on skin products.
Lime is a top note that gives a tart opening to tropical, herbal and spa blends. Like all citrus it fades early, so give it a base to rest on.
