Citrus scent notes

Citrus covers the whole family of pressed peels: lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit and bergamot. Most of them are rich in limonene, which is why they all smell bright and clean. Each adds its own twist, from the bitterness of grapefruit to the floral side of bergamot.

Citrus is a top note through and through. It is the first thing you smell and the first to fade. Anchor it with musk, woods or amber if you want the brightness to last. Citrus essential oils fade fastest of all in cold process soap, so pair them with a base note that holds.
