What should your next creation smell like?
The first warm day of spring, your grandmother's kitchen, the last night of a trip. Tell me in your own words.
About the Blend Advisor
The Blend Advisor turns a scent you describe into test blends of our essential oils and fragrance oils, with amounts in mL for your soap, candle, room spray or diffuser. It's free, there's no sign-up, and it takes about two minutes.
How the Blend Advisor works
- Describe the scent.A place, a memory or a moment, in your own words.
- Answer a few short questions. What you're making, what you smell first, what you love most about it, and which kind of oils to use. Tap a suggestion or type your own.
- Get your test blends. It picks two to four of our oils and builds test blends where a different oil leads each time, with amounts in mL and a note on what each oil brings. One button adds the oils to your cart, in bottle sizes that leave room for a second round.
Examples from our testing
- A cold process soap that smells like a crisp fall morning, sweet cinnamon and orange peel with soft cedar: Ginger, Sweet Orange, Virginia Cedarwood and Cinnamon Cassia.
- A soy candle that smells like a cabin in the woods, dry embers first with pine outside: Cypress, Atlas Cedarwood and Douglas Fir (New Zealand).
- An all-natural kitchen room spray, fresh-cut lemon peel with a little green herb: Lemon, Rosemary Moroccan and Virginia Cedarwood.
Built around what you're making
The advisor builds for candles, wax melts, cold process and melt and pour soap, liquid soap, bath bombs, room sprays, reed and ultrasonic diffusers, plug-in air fresheners, body lotion, hand cream, facial cream, lip balm and fine fragrance rollerballs. It keeps each blend within your product's usage range and each oil's IFRA limit, keeps strong oils and oils with a low limit at 1 mL, and points out what to watch for, like citrus fading in a burning candle. The usage range for each product is on Suggested Applications & IFRA.
Before you make a full batch
Let the test blends rest a day or two, then try your favorite in a small batch of your product. To adjust it, change one oil by 1 mL at a time. For how much fragrance a vessel takes, see the Fragrance Oil Blending & Dilution Guide.
Questions
- Is it AI?
- Yes. The Blend Advisor is an AI assistant, and it only suggests oils we carry.
- Which oils can it use?
- You choose: the best match from all our oils, or only essential oils, fragrance oils or natural fragrance oils.
- Can it leave something out?
- Yes. Tell it what you don't want, such as "no vanilla", and it skips oils with that note.
