Chocolate is a difficult note to get right. Cocoa absolute smells deep and a little bitter, and on its own it can read dusty, so most chocolate fragrances build the effect with vanilla, caramel and nutty notes around a cocoa core.
A chocolate note usually opens a gourmand blend and settles into nutty, creamy and vanilla notes underneath. It works best in candles and wax melts. Like most dessert scents it often carries vanillin, which can tint light wax and soap brown, so test before a large pour.
