Lily of the valley, or muguet, smells green, dewy and bright, like spring air with a touch of lemon. The tiny bell-shaped flowers give no usable oil, so every lily of the valley scent is built by a perfumer from aroma chemicals.

It sits in the heart of a blend, brightening rose and white florals and keeping them from smelling heavy. Violet, pear and soft musk suit it well. If a floral blend feels too sweet, lily of the valley is a good way to open it up.
