Essential Oils for Beard Health

Autumn and winter can be a great time to grow longer facial hair, especially with No Shave November giving the opportunity to grow it for awareness of a good cause. Beard grooming and the products you use are both important to make sure your beard is both great looking and healthy. This means that time and attention must be given to the hair of your beard as well as the skin underneath.

The hair on your face needs just as much care and grooming as the hair on your head. The right grooming techniques and products can help the hair of your beard stay soft and smooth while stimulating hair growth and repairing damage and split ends. Even if you’ve had a beard for so long that you haven't seen it in years, there is skin hidden under there. Proper skin care can help with the dry itchy skin that can be a common ailment of longer facial hair, especially in colder months. It can also help to combat ingrown hairs, acne, and dandruff in your beard.

Creating your own products to care for your facial allows you to customize the ingredients for your specific needs and preferences. Essential oils have a variety of benefits for overall beard and skin health and make great and helpful additions to your DIY beard care products. They can help cleanse and moisturize the skin, strengthen and repair the hair as well as support new hair growth.

Beard Wash

A good beard wash is the first step in caring for your facial hair. It can help get rid of build up from other products as well as cleanse the skin to combat dry skin and itchiness.

Add castile soap, jojoba oil, and essential oils to a bowl and stir vigorously to combine. Add water and stir again. Allow any bubbles that may occur to dissipate before pouring the solution into the bottle. Add a small amount to your hand and work into your beard. Use your fingertips to gently massage the wash into the skin for more thorough cleansing.

Beard Oil

Beard oil helps in taming your beard while also nourishing the hair and skin underneath. It keeps your beard looking maintained and healthy and can even help stimulate hair growth.

Add all ingredients to the bottle and give it a good shake to combine. Add a few drops to your hands and rub throughout your beard to nourish and smooth the hair. You can also massage a few drops into your skin to help stimulate beard growth and moisturize your skin.

Mustache Wax

Pour the mixture into the tin and allow to cool and harden completely. Work a small amount of product between your fingertips and use it to help tame and shape your mustache. You can also warm the wax in your hands and smooth over your beard or goatee for particularly unruly hairs.
