Douglas Fir (New Zealand)
New Zealand Douglas Fir essential oil delivers a crisp, green, forest-like aroma that feels clean, expansive, and quietly energizing. Distilled from the needles of Douglas Fir trees grown in New Zealand, its profile is noticeably brighter, sweeter, and more citrus-forward than traditional North American varieties, offering a more refined and versatile aromatic experience. This unique character comes from its distinct chemical profile, which makes it especially valued in both aromatherapy and natural perfumery. In New Zealand, Douglas Fir is considered an invasive species, making its harvesting a more sustainable and eco-conscious choice that supports land management while producing a high-quality essential oil.
Often used in aromatherapy to support a sense of clear breathing, mental refresh, and environmental reset, Douglas Fir brings an outdoor clarity into indoor spaces. Its aroma feels open and grounding at the same time, making it especially suited for moments when you want to reset the atmosphere without heaviness.
In formulation, it acts as a fresh top-to-middle note, pairing easily with citrus, mint, and wood oils to create clean, modern blends. Many also incorporate Douglas Fir into skin-focused applications for its naturally purifying properties when properly diluted.
A refined evergreen that feels more like fresh air than dense forest, with a brighter, more lifted character that sets it apart.

From Living Forests to Finished Oil
We chose to source our Douglas-fir essential oil from Port Blakely because their process offers something we value deeply: transparency from forest to finished oil.
Unlike many conifer oils that are produced from forestry waste after clearcutting — where branches may sit for days or even weeks before distillation — Port Blakely harvests needles and twigs directly from living trees dedicated to oil production.
Those trees remain in the ground, continuing to grow and act as long-term carbon sinks, while only the green material needed for distillation is selectively harvested.
