Earthy scent notes

Earthy notes smell like damp soil, roots and moss after rain. The rain smell even has a name, petrichor, and a molecule behind it, geosmin, which the nose picks up at vanishingly small amounts. Vetiver, patchouli and oakmoss carry the same dark, rooty character.

Earthy notes are base notes. They suit leather, herbal notes and bright citrus like grapefruit, where they keep the top from floating away. Use them in small amounts.
