Make your own Fizzy Bath Bombs

How to Make Fizzy Bath Bombs

What You Need

  • 30 mL citric acid
  • 30 mL cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1.25 mL essential oil or fragrance oil
  • 0.15 to 0.3 mL food color
  • 45 mL vegetable oil
  • 2 bowls
  • Wax paper

For larger amounts of fizzy bath bombs, expand the mixture using the proportions above.

Step 1

Combine all dry ingredients (citric acid, baking soda and cornstarch) in the bowl.

Step 2

In a separate bowl mix vegetable oil, fragrance or essential oils and coloring together.

Step 3

Slowly pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients.

Step 4

Make small (1 inch) balls of the mixture and place them on waxed paper to dry. It takes 24 to 48 hours for fizzy bath balls to dry completely. They should be completely dry before storage.

Store bath bombs in a tightly sealed container, away from moisture.

Try one in the bath. They make good gifts too.

Extras

You can add "extras" to your bath bombs. Any vegetable oil will work in your fizzy bath bombs (jojoba, coconut oil, avocado oil, walnut oil, apricot kernel oil, sweet almond oil and so on). You can also add Vitamin E, also known as mixed tocopherols, to your oil mixture.

Loose Fizzy Bath with Citrus, Frankincense and Peppermint

This version is not shaped into balls. The mixture is stored loose in an airtight container and scooped into a warm bath. It is scented with sweet orange, frankincense, lime and peppermint essential oils, with mica or glitter for sparkle.

Ingredients

Supplies

  • Large mixing bowl (glass or metal)
  • Whisk
  • Gloves
  • Airtight glass container

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl mix the baking soda, citric acid, Epsom salt, and micas or glitters. Use a whisk or gloved hands to make sure everything is thoroughly incorporated. Add more glitter or mica if you want some extra sparkle.
  2. Mix the essential oils and almond oil separately. You can play around with the scent by adding less or more of the essential oils.
  3. Add oil mixture to the dry mixture.
  4. Mix everything together. Using a whisk for this step helps mix in the oils and avoid lumps. You want to make sure the oils are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  5. Pour into an airtight container for storage and use about 1 cup per bath.
