Pirates Blend: Product Highlight

Pirates Blend is a combination of seven essential oils: Clove Bud, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Lavender and Cedarwood. It is based on a formula that is hundreds of years old. Similar blends date back to the fifteenth century and are tied to a story about former spice and perfume merchants, who drew on what they had learned about essential oils through their work and travels.

Why blend essential oils

Essential oils are naturally complex in their composition, and each one carries the character of the plant it was extracted from. Blending them creates scents with more depth and a wider range of aromatic notes than any single oil offers on its own.

The oils in Pirates Blend

The essential oils in Pirates Blend come from a variety of different plants.

Clove Bude

Clove Bud (Syzygium aromaticum) essential oil is extracted from the flower buds of a tree in the Myrtaceae family. The clove tree is native to Indonesia, and clove buds are commonly used for culinary purposes.

Lemon

Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil is extracted from the peels of the fruit of small evergreen trees in the Rutaceae family. Lemon trees are native to parts of India, Myanmar and China, and were historically grown decoratively before culinary and aroma uses were discovered.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) essential oil is extracted from the bark of a small evergreen tree belonging to the Lauraceae family. The tree is native to Sri Lanka. Another variety of essential oil can also be extracted from the leaves.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) essential oil is extracted from the leaves of flowering trees in the Myrtaceae family. Eucalyptus trees are native to Australia and rarely grow larger than around 30 feet tall.

Rosemary

Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) essential oil is extracted from the leaves of a fragrant shrub in the Lamiaceae family. It is native to the Mediterranean region but is also grown in North America and parts of Africa.

Lavender

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil is extracted from the flowering heads of an herb in the Lamiaceae family. Lavender is native to Africa, Europe and Asia and is one of the most widely popular essential oils available.

Cedarwood

Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) essential oil is extracted from the wood of a coniferous tree in the Cupressaceae family. Cedarwoods are slow-growing trees that are native to eastern North America and can reach up to around 60 feet tall.
