Key takeaways

  • 3 Moms Organics was founded by Lisa Jae Eggert after her own experience with a serious tick-borne illness.

  • Its flagship product, TickWise, is a MADE SAFE certified, plant-based repellent made in the USA.

  • The name reflects three guiding forces: Lisa Jae Eggert, the customer, and Mother Nature.

  • The Essential Oil Company supplies the oils at the heart of the formula.

Some of the best products start with a personal question. For Lisa Jae Eggert (LJ), the question was simple and urgent: what can I make to keep my family safe?

For this edition of our Artisan Spotlight, we are honored to introduce LJ, founder of 3 Moms Organics and the maker behind TickWise. Built in East Hampton, New York, her brand grew out of necessity and was shaped by a steady determination to protect families, dogs, and the outdoor moments worth holding onto.

Why did Lisa Jae Eggert start 3 Moms Organics?

LJ did not set out to build a business. Years ago, a tick bite led to a serious tick-borne illness that turned her life upside down. What began as a single bite took days to surface, and the illness that followed was misread more than once before she understood what she was facing. The experience was disorienting and life-altering, and it left her searching for a way to spare the people she loved from going through the same thing.

Looking at Essential Oil Tick Spray

There was a complication. Because of her own health, conventional chemical repellents were not a safe option for her. If she wanted protection, it would have to come from something gentler. That constraint became the foundation for everything that followed.

How TickWise was built, one iteration at a time

The first version was not the one you can buy today. LJ refined her formula again and again, learning as she went. She worked through the rules and regulations that govern repellents, chose the slower and more demanding path so she could do things properly, and reformulated along the way to improve stability and consistency.

Three things guided every decision, and they never changed. It had to be safe. It had to perform consistently, batch after batch. And it had to earn a real place in a family’s routine. Today TickWise is MADE SAFE® certified, proudly made in the USA, and formulated with the whole household in mind, including dogs and horses.

What started in a home kitchen is now a women-owned business with a devoted following and a product line that holds steady year after year.

Why do the oils matter in a natural repellent?

Ask LJ what makes a botanical repellent work, and the answer comes back to the oils. With a plant-based formula, the ingredients are everything. The wrong oils, or oils handled without care, can undermine both safety and performance. Getting them right takes a supplier who understands quality and stands behind it.

That bar sits even higher because TickWise carries MADE SAFE® certification, which screens every ingredient against a strict standard for substances known or suspected to cause harm. An oil earns its place in the bottle only if it clears that screening, so LJ needs a source she can trust at the ingredient level.

That is where our paths crossed. When LJ needed oils she could count on, our team moved quickly, answered her questions, and helped her source with confidence. For nearly five decades, The Essential Oil Company has supplied makers who need exactly what LJ does: consistency and integrity in every batch. From origin to outcome, our job is to provide ingredients worthy of what our makers are building.

What does the name 3 Moms Organics mean?

The name carries more than it first appears. The three moms are LJ herself, the customer she designs for, and Mother Nature. It is a quiet reminder of who the product is built to serve and where its ingredients come from. Every choice runs through that filter: safe for the people using it, honest about what is inside, and respectful of the natural world it draws from.

A Shared Standard

Makers like LJ are the reason we do this work. Her story is a reminder that the right ingredients, in the right hands, can become something a family trusts. As the season turns and more of us head outdoors to camp, travel, and explore, that kind of care matters more than ever.
