Essential Oils To Remove The Smell Of Smoke

If all of the many other health and safety concerns associated with a smoky environment weren't enough to worry about, the smell of smoke can remain for long after the fire has subsided. Smoke is one of the most pervasive and lingering unpleasant odors that exists. The pungent aroma can get into upholstery, carpets, linens and even clothing in our homes, leaving us with a stinky reminder of a very stressful situation. There is only so much that cleaning and airing out our homes can do to combat that pesky residual smoke odor and most commercial air fresheners tend to mask the smell rather than remove it. There are many essential oils with powerful deodorizing properties that can help to actually eliminate that smoky odor and have our homes smelling fresh and inviting again without any mystery ingredients or overpowering synthetic aromas.

After an influx of smoke in the environment, it's a good idea to replace your overworked air filters. For a quick and easy way to start combating smoke odor in your home, try adding 10 drops of lavender essential oil directly to your air filter. This will help leave a light, pleasant scent in the air while at the same time eliminating the smell of smoke and helping you to relax.

Diffusing

Adding deodorizing and purifying essential oils to your favorite home diffuser is a great way to help rid your home of smoke odor and replace it with a refreshing scent. Try these odor fighting blends to help clean the air in your home.

Upholstery

Carpets, rugs, and upholstery can be some of the most difficult surfaces in your home to rid of smoke odor. Baking soda and essential oils can work together to help absorb the smell and leave behind a much more refreshing aroma. Add 10 drops each of pine essential oil and tea tree essential oil to 1 cup of baking soda. Sprinkle this mixture all across the carpet or other fabric surfaces in your home and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. (For an extra deodorizing boost, brush the powder mixture gently into the fabric with a soft bristled brush.) Vacuum the surface and enjoy the fresh, clean scent

Fresh and Clean Fabric & Room Spray

Even after cleaning and laundering the fabrics in your home, that pervasive smoke odor may still persist. A simple room spray packed with odor fighting vinegar and essential oils could be just the trick to get rid of those last traces of smelly smoke and give your home an invigoratingly fresh scent.

Mix all the ingredients together inside a 4oz glass bottle with a spray or mister top. Shake well to combine thoroughly and again before each use. Spray all around your home and especially on upholstery and drapes to help eliminate lingering smoke smell.
